The Saints and Me Series; a Saint For Everything!

Earlier this week my mother-in-law and I spent the day at the mall. Our shopping spree was coming to a close when panic started setting in. I still needed to find a dress to wear for our family photo shoot.  As we were circling JCPenny's, my mother-in-law found a darling dark blue and maroon floral dress…but unfortunately, the size was too big! I was beginning to feel defeated. Was I ever going to find a dress? Time was running out and I was losing stamina so I turned to my buddy St. Anthony.

“St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please come around. I need to find a dress and it can not be found.”

Minutes later, my mother-in-law found a rack with that dress, with only one left in my size!! On our way to the fitting room to try it on, we saw a manikin wearing a green qcorduroy dress with buttons down the front. We simultaneously said, “Where is that dress?” Shortly after we found the rack and grabbed my size. Both dresses fit perfectly and now I have the problem of having to decide which one to wear for family pictures! Thank you, St. Anthony.

St. Anthony of Padua is one of the Catholic Church’s most popular saints. We invoke his intercession for help finding everyday items and important documents and for the intercession of those who have steered from the faith. I rely on him more than I would like to admit, but it's easy to turn to him with confidence because I know his intercession is effective.

What is stopping me from having the same confidence in other saints?

Hebrews 12:1 says, "Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us"

Known or unknown by name, the saints are routing for us! They help us complete the spiritual race on earth so we may one day join them in heaven. They feed us through their words and spiritual writings, encourage us by the example of their life, and guide our journey through their intercessory prayer. There is a saint for every scenario!

The other night, my daughter woke up and was struggling to fall asleep. After two hours of wrestling with a sleepless toddler, I grabbed my phone and looked up the patron saint of insomnia. I immediately invoked the intercession of St. Peter Damien and 20 minutes later my sweet girl was fast asleep.

Just this morning, I woke up not feeling well. It didn't take long before I was googling the patron saint of body aches and asking St. Raphael the Archangel and St. Padre Pio to pray for me!

The saints are a beautiful gift and a wonderful asset to our lives. May we be unafraid to invoke the intercession of all the holy men and women who are acting as our spiritual cheerleaders!

St. Anthony of Padua, pray for us.

St. Peter Damien, pray for us.

St. Raphael the Archangel, pray for us.

St. Padre Pio, pray for us.

All Holy Men and Women, Saints of God, pray for us!

Until next time, your sister in Christ,

Abby
