Rosary Reflections: The Descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost

As a mother, I often find that our days run smoother when I intentionally spend time with my children right away in the morning. After breakfast, we read a giant stack of books, set a puzzle or two, or maybe build some sort of tower. After their mama cup has been filled, they are typically content to go off and spend some time independently!

Building a tower!

Before I go off and serve the Lord through my vocation and daily life, it helps to be filled by the Lord through a daily Pentecost or outpouring of the Holy Spirit. He fills us with divine inspiration that guides our discernment and deepens our relationship with the Trinity.

Let me share with you the story of Pentecost from Acts 2: 1-4: “When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”

The Third Glorious Mystery: The Decent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost

Did you notice that before the disciples were able to begin proclaiming to the nations, they first had to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Just like the apostles, we each have been given the gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

Through prayer, we can foster our understanding of the Holy Spirit and the fulfillment of these spiritual gifts in our lives.

When cultivated, these gifts produce fruit that reflects the true characteristics of the Lord found within our hearts and manifested through our actions. These fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. A recipe for who I want to be!

Mary is the spouse of the Holy Spirit! She became the Mother of our Lord through the power of the Holy Spirit and was with the disciples in the upper room on Pentecost.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Mary.

As you pray the Third Glorious Mystery: The Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, may the Blessed Mother lead you into a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and to a clear understanding of which gift the Holy Spirit would like to increase in your life!

Until next time, your sister in Christ,

Abby
