READING RECOMMENDATIONS
This is one that I have turned to many times in my 15 years as a mother. In fact, I have purchased 3 copies of it for myself alone (thanks to heavy use and haphazardly misplacing it), not to mention the others that I have given out as gifts. This is a must-read!

The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ: From the Visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich
Anne Catherine Emmerich
This book is private revelation, so it is not formally endorsed by the Catholic Church, but it is the the most efficacious thing that I could possibly read during Lent. I try to get through as much of it as I can during Holy Week every year.

The rosary can be a mystery for many, with its lengthy repetition of prayers, yet many saints have promoted it and Our Lady asked for it during her apparition at Fatima. I grew up praying it, but didn’t fully appreciate the depth and beauty of it until I read this book. It is something that I have read many times over the years to remind me why I practice this devotion each and every day.

St. Alphonsus Liguori is my favorite saint to read. His writings are full of beautiful meditations and powerful quotes from many classic saints. The Glories of Mary is a must-read for anyone wanting to explore the mysteries and beauty of our Blessed Mother and her role in salvation.

Instead of memorizing questions, as in the old Baltimore Catechism style, St. Patrick’s Summer relies on the power of storytelling to teach the truths of our faith.

While I am far from being an expert in the school of silence, this book is an incredible resource that I can turn to when I feel like I am being crushed by the noise of the world.

This book is an amazing devotional for those who don’t know where to start. The passages are very short but Kempis packs a punch with each meditation. I like to read one meditation before going to bed at night to ponder upon it while I fall asleep.

I like to read this book at the beginning of Lent every year. Every year I find myself in a new state in life and the words affect me in a new way. It is one of the most entertaining, brilliant and convicting books one could possibly read.

Catechisms
Leah's Notes: I reference my Catechism on a regular basis, whether it be researching something for the blog, or answering a question that my kids presented me with. Every Catholic household should own a quality catechism to read, study and reference.
St. Joseph's Hammer
by Leah Brix
An unlikely narrator comes to life in this charming and delightful tale about one of the Bible's most quiet, yet remarkable men.
“What a gift to have a children’s book that focuses on the life and quiet faithfulness of Saint Joseph. Be sure to use the reference page in the back to enhance your read-aloud time with a Bible study!”

Catholic Bibles
Leah's Notes: Find a bible that really speaks to you in your current season. It is totally fine to have numerous Bibles- a beautiful heirloom coffee table bible, a well-worn old bible, a journaling bible, a study bible, a timeline bible, etc. Here are some of our favorites.

This is my absolute favorite bible! I bring it to prayer with me every day. I love that there is room to write my own thoughts and prayers in addition to the beautiful format of the words of God. My copy is full of colorful notes!
