I love being a waitress. I know… it sounds silly and definitely not flashy, but of all the jobs I have had, being a waitress is close to the top of the list.
I love all the people I meet and the crazy stories they share with me. Just the other night, I had the chance to serve two guests all the way from Los Angeles. Because it was almost time for the restaurant to close for the night, these two guests were the only ones left in the restaurant. This made for more time to have intentional conversation. These two individuals were actually two tattoo artists from L.A which made for fascinating conversation. We talked about graffiti, tattoos, Jesus, and everything in between. 🙂
After they paid, they looked at me and said “Hey thanks for chatting. That honestly felt like therapy.” I chuckled because I thought about it- I didn't really say much, I honestly just listened. And that is when it struck me: that was the feminine genius of receptivity played out in real time.
I think when I hear the term feminine genius it seems so out of reach. It sounds like something that would be amazing to have but unattainable for the everyday Catholic, but that could not be farther from the truth.
How beautiful is it that as women our hearts were meant to receive and to receive others. How beautiful is it that we have the gift of listening so well that it makes others feel seen and loved. How beautiful is it that we have the capacity to truly be intentional and encounter others in a way that mirrors the way Jesus encounters us.
We were created with a deep desire to receive one another in their truest and authentic forms. Receptivity allows us to truly listen when someone is speaking and allows a deep sense of peace to follow.
“I praise you because I am fearful and wonderfully made" -Psalm 139
The Lord designed us with integrity and purpose. He designed us with the ability to encounter one another and allow his love to shine through in various ways. Whether it is receptivity or sensitivity. Maybe it is generosity or maternity, the Lord knows your heart. He knows the ways you can spread his love and kindness in ways that are completely unique to you- simply because you have the gift of being a woman.
My challenge to you is to take just five minutes to reflect on your week.
What were some ways you were using your feminine genius without realizing it? Maybe you were listening intently to a friend who needed support, or you dropped off a meal to a new mom.
Regardless of what it was —know that growing in our feminine genius isn’t something that is out of reach but rather something that the Lord desires for each of us. ❤️
Until next time,
Angela
